AMERICAN DRIVING

 

Ces images ont été réalisées entre 2015 et 2019 dans plusieurs villes américaines (NYC, Los Angeles, Omaha, Salt Lake City,…), depuis des voitures en mouvement.

On y découvre une vision à la fois partielle et fugace du monde. Un cadre qui s’offre, mais un cadre éphémère, sans cesse renouvelé, et qu’il faut donc saisir sans attendre, dans l’urgence – et bien sûr dans l’ombre.

J’ai beaucoup pensé au travail que Paul Fusco fit à bord du train funéraire de Robert Kennedy, à la figure imposée par le chemin qu’on ne choisit pas, par ce qui s’offre, par ce qui disparait trop vite. Que retient-on de cette route parcourue, de ces quartiers traversés, de ces passant.e.s croisé.e.s ?

These images were taken between 2015 and 2019 in several American cities (NYC, Los Angeles, Omaha, Salt Lake City, etc.), from moving cars.

We discover a vision of the world that is both partial and fleeting. A frame that offers itself, but an ephemeral frame, constantly renewed, and which must therefore be grasped without delay, in an emergency – and of course in the shadow.

I thought a lot about the work that Paul Fusco did on board Robert Kennedy's funeral train, about the figure imposed by the path that one does not choose, by what is offered, by what disappears too quickly. What do we remember of this road traveled, of these neighborhoods crossed, of all these passers-by?
